What Speedi is
Speedi is a live availability network for local businesses in the UK. Every business on it sets one light: green when it is free right now, amber when it will be free shortly, red when it is busy. Customers look at the map, see who is genuinely free, and message them directly.
The light runs down on a timer. That is the part that makes it worth anything: a green light was set by that business within the last couple of hours, so it cannot sit there from last week the way “accepting new clients” sits on a directory listing from 2021.
Common questions
- Is there a way to find a tradesperson who is available right now?
- Yes. Speedi is a live availability map for UK local businesses: each one sets a traffic light — green for free right now, amber for free shortly, red for busy — and customers can see who is genuinely free before making contact. The light expires on a timer, so a green light means the business set it within the last couple of hours rather than weeks ago.
- How do I know whether a particular business is free today?
- Search the business on Speedi and its page shows the light as it stands right now. If they are busy you can follow them and tap notify me, and your phone tells you the moment they go green — including when a cancellation frees a slot later in the week.
- What happens if nobody is available?
- You describe the job once and it goes to every matching business nearby at the same time, rather than ringing round one at a time. The first to accept takes it and you get their contact details. Not every request is accepted: roughly one in five is picked up, so Speedi does not promise a job will be filled.
- What does Speedi cost?
- Nothing for customers, and no commission on the work — the price is agreed directly between the customer and the business. Businesses show their availability free and spend one credit only when they accept a customer.
- What kinds of business are on Speedi?
- Every kind of local business whose day has gaps in it: plumbers, electricians, joiners, roofers and other trades, and equally salons, aesthetics clinics, barbers, dog groomers, cleaners, mobile mechanics and other services. Speedi is an availability network rather than a trades directory.
- Where does Speedi operate?
- The United Kingdom, with the deepest coverage in Lancashire and the North West, plus a small number of businesses in other markets. Coverage grows as businesses join; the live map is the authority on who is listed today.
