A cancellation at half two: how salons and clinics fill the gap the same day

Somebody cancels, the chair is empty, and the story you post about it reaches whoever happens to be looking. Here is how the people who actually want that slot get told the moment it exists.

Half two cancels. Again.

For a salon, a clinic, a groomer or a mobile therapist, the empty chair is the whole problem in miniature. The hour is already paid for — the room, the rent, the time you cleared — and the only thing missing is somebody in it.

So you post a story. "Cancellation today, 2.30, DM me." And it reaches whoever happens to open Instagram in the next ten minutes, which is not the same thing as the people who actually wanted the appointment.

Why the story is the wrong tool

Nothing is wrong with posting it. The trouble is who sees it:

  • Followers only, and only the ones online right now.
  • Ordered by an algorithm that does not know one of them has been waiting three weeks for exactly this.
  • Gone in twenty-four hours whether it filled or not.

Meanwhile the client who would have dropped everything for a 2.30 is at work with notifications off, and finds out tomorrow.

What filling a gap actually needs

Two things, and they are not marketing:

  1. The people who want you already on a list. Not "followers" — a list of clients who have said, about you specifically, tell me when there is a gap.
  2. A way to tell them all at the same second, on the one device they will look at.

That is what Speedi is. It is an availability network, not a directory: clients follow a business and tap notify me, and when that business flips its light to green, everybody on the list is told at once. First to reply takes the slot.

The light expires, which is the point

A green light on Speedi runs down on a timer. You cannot leave it on and forget it, and a client cannot be told you are free when you are not. That is the difference between a live signal and a listing that says "accepting new clients" from 2021.

It works for whoever you are

The same thing solves the same problem in different rooms: a clinic with a gap after a late cancellation, a groomer whose ten o'clock did not show, a mobile mechanic with an afternoon free, a cleaner with a slot because a job finished early. None of them need a new website. They need the people who already want them to know, today.

What it costs

Showing your availability is free. You spend one credit when you accept a customer — 10 for £20, 25 for £45, 50 for £80 — and there is no monthly fee and no commission on the work. What you charge is what you keep.

The short version

Do not advertise the gap to the internet. Tell the people who already asked to be told. That is one tap for them, one tap for you, and the chair is full at half two.
