A night out that came up this morning, or a treatment you've put off for weeks and suddenly want done. The good places are booked — until somebody cancels. Here's how to be the one who gets that slot.
The salons and clinics worth going to are usually booked. That is how you know they're worth going to.
But "booked" isn't the whole story. Every day, in every busy salon, somebody cancels. The 2pm facial can't get off work. The 4pm has a poorly child. The slot is suddenly free, and it goes to whoever hears about it first — often a regular who happened to ring at the right moment.
A same-day appointment isn't luck. It's hearing first.
Why booking sites don't show it
Online booking shows the slots a business set up in advance. A cancellation half an hour ago often isn't there yet — the owner is with a client and hasn't touched the calendar. Or the business doesn't use online booking at all and fills gaps from a WhatsApp list.
So the gap exists, and nobody outside the building can see it.
How to see who's free today
On Speedi, salons and clinics set their own light. Green means free now. Amber means free shortly, and turns green within the hour. Red means booked. The light runs down on a timer, so it's never left over from last week — when a clinic shows green, they said so within the last couple of hours.

Same day doesn't mean skipping the checks
For anything injectable — anti-wrinkle, fillers, skin boosters — a good clinic will want a consultation first. For prescription treatments like anti-wrinkle injections, that includes an assessment by a prescriber. A same-day slot shouldn't mean skipping any of it, and a clinic that offers to is telling you something.
Before you book, it's worth asking:
- Who is doing the treatment, and what they're qualified in.
- Whether you need a consultation first, and whether it can happen the same day.
- What aftercare looks like, and who you contact if something isn't right.
Facials, brows and lashes are simpler, but the same instinct applies: a place that's happy to answer questions is a good sign.
